9:50 – 10:20 Corporate PPA Market: Past, Present and Future

Speaker: Corina Melchor, Clean Energy Advisor, Altenex Energy
The Altenex team will drive a conversation around the European renewable energy marketplace, discussing the PPA landscape, pricing, and other trends in the current market. In Europe, challenges continue to take a toll on the renewable energy industry. We are starting to see more actions taken by local governments to address the high cost of energy bills and to mitigate impact to consumers. However, there is a fine balance between short-term protectionist actions and long-term market distortion.
10:20-10:50 Using Corporate PPAs as Market Price Hedging Instruments: Opportunities and Risks

Speaker: Andor Savelkouls, Senior Director, Altenex Energy

The Altenex Energy team will discuss the implications of using PPAs to hedge longer term against similar price shocks in the market.  We welcome an open dialogue in which we will discuss risk and opportunities when entering into a PPA to meet long-term renewable goals. Conversation will include an in-detail discussion on risk-mitigating structures around price and volume for corporate entities in the current environment. This is of particular interest among large industrial producers as they continue to engage in these long-term transactions moving forward, that enable them to profitably continue and grow operations in a high-priced energy environment.

10:50-11:20 Coffee, Networking, & Email Break
11:20-11:40 Challenges and Opportunities for PPAs: a Debate around the Current Regulatory and International Context

Speaker: Alfonso Bayona Giménez, Partner, Bird & Bird
Led by the Bird & Bird team, we will provide participants with a general overview of the main threats and opportunities in light of the changes in regulations and increase in power prices and the effects of those on the execution of long-term PPAs.

Key questions to explore and unpack include:

  • How the current wholesale prices trend will impact on the structure of PPAs?
  • How to anticipate changes in regulations in the context of PPA negotiations?
  • Do PPAs protect enough against power price fluctuations?
  • What are the expected challenges in the forthcoming years as regards PPAs?
  • Which other products will impact PPAs in the future?
